Travel

Well Person Screening

The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40-74. It’s designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia.

Phlebotomy

We do not provide routine blood taking service, but there is an excellent local walk in service at Bradwell Hospital or Cobridge Health Center, or an appointment based clinic at Milehouse Primary Care Centre or Tunstall Primary Care Center.

Minor Surgery

We offer a minor surgery service for removal of ‘lumps and bumps’ which are clinically indicated. Please note there is a waiting list for this service.

Child Development

We offer a 6 week baby check as routine, but many of our GPs are experienced parents and clinicians to be able to offer help and advice about child development. We also have close links with local health visiting teams.

Antenatal / Postnatal

Antenatal and Postnatal Care is provided by appointment only in conjunction with the community midwives and the doctor.

Smoking Cessation

We no longer provide smoking cessation service and recommend the excellent NHS website http://www.nhs.uk/smokefree .

Dietary & Exercise Advice

Our nursing team can offer you help and advice on healthy lifestyle, as well as help you access the latest NHS programme available in our area.

Chronic Disease Management

All our clinical staff are trained and experienced in helping you manage your long term conditions. Our recall system is based upon at least 1 yearly review contact, which is around your BIRTH MONTH; an easy system which helps all of us to plan care. You may need to have some routine blood tests before annual reviews, and we may also need to see you more frequently if the condition merits.

Family Planning

Our clinical team provide family planning advice ranging from contraception to pre-conception advice. Please book a routine appointment to discuss your needs with a doctor or a nurse. We can also provide emergency contraception, as well as long acting reversible contraception (LARCs) which include “the coil” and “the implant”. We have both male and female clinicians to discuss your needs. We do not currently provide vasectomy services, but can refer you to a local NHS provider for this.

Cervical Cytology

Cervical Smears are routinely repeated every three years. These are usually booked with a female nurse or doctor. Please tell the receptionist if you are booking for a smear. For more information please see the NHS Screening Website .

Influenza Immunisation

We offer an influenza vaccination service by a team of trained clinicians. You can be assured that we are all experienced in providing injections and have been providing this service for many years.

Complaints

We make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our practice.

However, we are aware that things can go wrong resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is so, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly, and as amicably, as possible.

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

The Primary Care Trust has a PALS service that provides on the spot confidential advice and support. Telephone 0800 389 8832 Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4.30pm. An answerphone service is available out of office hours – please leave a message if no-one is available to take your call and PALS will get back to you.The PALS team are based at:

Zero Tolerance Policy

The NHS operate a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence and abuse and the practice has the right to remove violent patients from the list with immediate effect in order to safeguard practice staff, patients and other persons. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a person’s safety. In this situation we will notify the patient in writing of their removal from the list and record in the patient’s medical records the fact of the removal and the circumstances leading to it.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

Your employer can ask you to confirm that you’ve been ill.You can do this by filling in a form yourself when you return to work. This is called self-certification.

If you’re sick and off work for more than seven days, your employer will probably ask for proof of your illness. Most employers ask for a fit note from your GP.

However, this will also depend on your employer’s company policy on sick leave (or sickness absence). This policy should tell you how many days you can be off sick before you need to provide proof of illness or a fit note.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work – ’Fit Note’

The ‘fit note’ was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer’s support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Loomer Road Surgery

The mean earnings for GP’s working at Loomer Road Surgery in the financial year ended 31st March 2017 was £40,064 before deduction of employees superannuation contributions, tax and National Insurance. This is the average pay for 7 part-time GP’s who worked in the practice for more than 6 months during that year.

Haymarket Health Centre

The mean earnings for GP’s working at Haymarket Health Centre in the eleven month period ended 31st March 2017 was £64,475 before deduction of employees superannuation contributions, tax and National Insurance. This is the average pay for 2 full-time GP’s and 1 part-time GP who worked in the practice for 6 months or more during that period.

Patient Participation Group

The PPG is a group of volunteers at the practice that represent the views of the patients. We always welcome new members from all genders, age groups, religions and ethnicity’s to join our groups.
